As a rule, poker hasn't really been favoured by the casinos, as their direct return from the game is low when compared to staples like roulette, . Whereas they've always allowed the big money tournaments (good for publicity), you'd struggle to find a cash game anywhere.
However, the huge wave of interest that's sweeping everywhere has, quite literally, forced their hand. The US, as usual was ahead of the trend, but even The Bahamas has, reluctantly accepted the inevitable.
There are basically 2 places to play:
1. Atlantis Casino on Paradise Island open in Spring 2006
2. Crystal Palace Casino on Cable Beach strip - opened in Summer 2005
Once its open, Atlantis will have the bigger games and will be the venue for poker. Its a bigger casino and Atlantis is one of the world's top resorts. However, Atlantis is a very expensive (though excellent) place to stay. If you wantto save your money for the tables, you'd be advised to stay in one of the neightbouring hotels, such as Holiday Inn, Paradise Island; Comfort Suites or The Rui Resort. All of which are withineasy walking distance of the Casino, but much mmore reasonably priced than Atlantis
If you want to go REALLY high end, then stay at the Ocean Club (rooms starting at $1,00/night without breakfast)
Crystal Palace, on the other hand has the huge advantage of already being open and you can find games of Hold 'Em, etc. every night, without exception. If you're playing there, you'll want to stay on the Cable Beach Strip - primarily 3 hotels: the Raddison, Cable Beach, The Nassau Beach Hotel and The Wyndham. These are all connected and there's not a great deal of difference in quality of service.
However, the Cable Beach Hotels have been amalgamated under BahMar, an $800 million development so its expected that the place will be able to compete with Atlantis 1 to 1 within the next few years
If you're only looking for a fun game, then contact me through the comments below and let me know when you're coming down. We play regularly in our little club and would be happy to welcome you.
